My Hobby Is My Key To Success
Everybody has a hobby. A hobby that has played a part in shaping them to become who they are now. Many things can be considered a hobby, it could be sports, music, gaming or many other things. I too have hobbies that have helped me become who I am today and my hobbies are one of the reasons behind my success in academics as well as in other areas of life.

Back when I was in primary school, I never really had a hobby. I spent a lot of time watching TV and lazing around, which although could be classified as hobbies, were never really anything productive and never helped me in any way. It was then that my parents suggested I take up music as a hobby, and that turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life! I went to a music school with my mom and had a look around the place and tried out a few instruments. It seemed fun but none of the instruments really caught my attention. That's when I saw a drum kit in one of the music rooms. I remember asking if i could try it out and to my surprise, the music teacher gave me permission. As soon as I sat behind the drum kit, I knew this was a skill I wanted to pick up. That same day I signed up for classes and by the end of the month, I was hooked onto it. It has now been around 12 years that I have been playing the drums and not only has it been a fun hobby, it's greatly helped me in in so many other aspects! Playing the drums has helped me increase my focus and improve my attention span in class. It also helped me make so many new friends as I formed several bands around Penang with my friends and also gave me so many new experiences such as being able to perform in my school, at music events, competitions and more. I have received lots of acknowledgement in my school due to my musical contributions. Without music and drums in my life, I would've probably burnt out of my studies early on and quite possibly ended up with some bad habits developed. It's scary to think how my life would've turned out without this hobby.

Another hobby I have is sports and athletics. When I started secondary school, I found myself to be vary lethargic and not very active at times. I made it a point to force myself to join several sports clubs in my school such as cricket and football. Upon joining these clubs, very quickly did I develop an interest in the sports. I trained hard everyday outside of class and it proved fruitful as my teams won several awards in sports competitions. These sports kept me active throughout my secondary school days and kept me healthy and focused in class as well. Sports can have a great impact on one's studying life and it definitely did on mine. I strongly encourage every student to take part in sports and to make it a hobby as it can bring great benefits to students and improve their life beyond measure.

My hobbies were one of the main reasons, if not the main one that I managed to succeed in primary and secondary school. To date, I still keep up with these hobbies and I'm planning on carrying these hobbies with me into my university life and I'm hoping it'll bring me as much success as it did before this.
